The Gospel While Mowing

The next time you're outside mowing the lawn, pulling weeds, or raking leaves let it be an occasion to remind you of why we need the gospel.

Remember Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden after eating the forbidden fruit. Soon thereafter God curses the Snake, Eve, and then Adam. See below for the curse upon Adam.

Genesis 3:17-19
“...Cursed is the ground because of you;

    through painful toil you will eat food from it
    all the days of your life.
18 It will produce thorns and thistles for you,

    and you will eat the plants of the field.
19 By the sweat of your brow
    you will eat your food
until you return to the ground,
    since from it you were taken;
for dust you are
    and to dust you will return.”

So the next time you're soaking wet with sweat from mowing the lawn, remember you're a sinner and this is part of our curse. Let this stir us on to think about the redemption which God has accomplished for us... with one very, very small fulfillment being no more "painful toiling" over this earthly ground.

Or possibly better yet, let your kids mow the lawn and remind them that they are sinners and let them contemplate what God has done through Christ for them. I know it might be tough giving up this job, but remember, its for their sake. :)

Homemade Obstacle Course

A huge pile of pillows for a jumping pit, a small rearrangement in furniture to make a circular obstacle course to climb on, and twine stretched between the furniture to up the difficulty and you have hours of rainy day fun (for added fun, an empty potty seat makes a good stinky bog).

Lowe's Build and Grow Workshop

Dads,
Check out Lowe's Build and Grow at your local Lowe's. It's super fun, free, and totally manly (cue the Tim the Tool-man grunt).
About every other week @ 10am Saturday, they hold the clinics. You come in with your kid(s), they get a free carpenters apron and goggles, grab a hammer and whatever the wooden project is that day, and get to work. When the kids finish, they get to keep the project and they receive a patch to place on their carpenter's apron (similar to the Boy Scouts).
All ages are welcome and you don't necessarily have to sign up in advance, just show up and start building. It is great kid-father time.
To go to the link for the upcoming dates go to www.lowesbuildandgrow.com. The next dates are: 10/8 (Monster Machine); 10/22 (Halloween Monster Truck); 11/12 (Science Lab); 11/19; 12/3; 12/10; 12/17 (not for sure what the projects are these last days).

We've build all kinds of neat things in the past (see above picture - my kids, Olivia and Keegan, with some of their previous projects), from a kaleidoscope and mini basketball game to Mother's Day presents and a catapult. Being the nerdy family that we are, we are extra excited about the science lab :)

Hope you enjoy!
